The Alberta Public Charter School System was created through provincial legislation to provide Alberta's students with choice as well as innovation in their learning. Charter schools are a critical component of the public education system, researching and providing innovation in such diverse areas as science education, arts education, at-risk students, traditional education and gifted education.
The Westmount Charter School Authority is a proud member of Alberta's Public Charter School System. Our charter specializes in the instruction of gifted education through innovation in differentiated learning. Summerstock-Westmount is an extremely innovative hybrid design of offering many different courses in the performing arts that are customized to the unique learning needs of the student. The performance that you see on stage is what we call the "collective identity" of many hours of creative work of the students you see both on and back stage.
With the intent to provide choice to gifted students in the performing arts from across Alberta, Summerstock-Westmount accepts both students from Westmount Charter School as well as students from around the province. Each year approximately 3000 students inquire/apply to do this extremely successful program. While Summerstock-Westmount is a massive mega-project, it is just one example of the many novel education programs that happen everyday in charter schools across Alberta.
